Academia

Currently on the job market.

Becoming an academic has simultaneously aged me and kept me young. Teaching in a collegiate environment has been fulfilling and taught me a lot about what makes education strong valuable. In my experience, there's nothing more rewarding than seeing student work improve after feedback and there's nothing more frustrating than empty office hours.

Balancing a love for teaching with the demands of research has not been a cakewalk. I'm not a capital A "Academic", but rather someone with a desire to learn as much as possible about the world around me and bear witness to the stories that make up my life.

My philosophies:

Teaching

I believe in fostering active participation through discussions, collaborative projects, and experiential learning opportunities that connect theoretical knowledge to real-world applications. By emphasizing the importance of ethical journalism, media literacy, and effective communication, I strive to prepare students to navigate and influence the rapidly evolving media landscape with integrity, creativity, and a deep sense of social responsibility.

Lectures I can give:

- Photojournalism 101

Storytelling 101

- Power of Images

- Adobe Skills for Journalism

Research

My research is centered on the intricate dynamics of visual communication, with a particular focus on political photojournalism and storytelling techniques. I am fascinated by the power of images to shape public perception and influence political discourse.

I have never believed in the "publish or perish" mindset of academia and instead focus on a healthy work/life balance. Which, in essence, means I perished.
